ABOUT LUNGI
Lungi Morrison is a visionary leader, global citizen, and polyglot deeply committed to building and nurturing Africa’s Creative Economy. Born in 1973 during South Africa’s Apartheid era, Lungi spent her formative years in Ibadan, Nigeria, where she lived for a decade starting at the age of three. Her upbringing also included time in Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Botswana, and later Auckland, New Zealand, where she and her family relocated. These diverse cultural experiences have shaped her worldview and passion for leveraging Africa’s rich cultural heritage.
Lungi holds a master’s degree in social anthropology (with a thesis focused on Indigenous Knowledge Systems) and sociology from the University of Auckland. She further honed her expertise in emerging markets and the BRICS economies through an executive development program at Harvard Business School. Through her career, Lungi has focused on the powerful intersection of the arts, tourism (place-making), and social impact (change-making). She is driven by a deep belief in critical thinking and creative practice rooted in ancient African knowledge systems, heritage, and praxis. Lungi views the arts as a vital tool for reimagining and strengthening our shared humanity.
At the end of 2023, she founded IFÉ Consulting, a platform dedicated to advisory services in the cultural and creative industries, tourism development, and social impact. The name IFÉ holds profound meaning, as it translates to “love” or “desire” in Yoruba, symbolizing the passion and affection at the heart of her work. Additionally, it pays homage to the ancient city of Ifé, the cradle of Yoruba civilization and a cornerstone of African heritage and creativity. The consultancy supports initiatives that preserve and celebrate African heritage while driving economic growth and social transformation.
As an international public speaker, Lungi has shared her expertise and passion on global platforms, addressing audiences at cultural, academic, and industry events around the world. She is recognized for her ability to inspire change and action through insightful discussions on Africa’s creative economy, heritage, and innovation.
Lungi also serves as a board member for Lalela, a nonprofit that empowers youth through art education, and works as an advisory consultant with the African Leadership Institute’s Tutu Fellows Program. Lungi’s work is a testament to her passion for using creativity, heritage, and innovation to drive sustainable development and cultural pride across the African continent and its Diaspora.
